INTRODUCTION
When newcomers to the Art first start attempting long distance work, they
often find that they have little to no success when it comes to accomplishing
their objectives. The reason for this is that their power has been so widely
dispersed as it travels to the target that when it reaches the target there
is little to none left so their Work fails. Historically, this problem would
be overcome by using a physical link to the individual, i.e. a piece of hair
or a sample of blood. Unfortunately as time has progressed it’s become
rather inconvenient/dangerous to acquire these samples thus a new method was
required. The working link that I will explain in this document is one such
solution.
WHAT IS A LINK?
A link is a psychic connection between two or more individuals that conveys
a varying amount of data and power along it between the individuals depending
on the type.
WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
A link can have a variety of purposes, but it’s main one is to allow
you to send/receive energy/data over long distances without said energy/data
being dispersed all over the place. It also has the advantage that it’s
harder to follow energy flowing through a link than it is to trace conventional
methods because the trace is only inside the link itself and not leaving a
blazing trail from you to the target. This is particularly useful if you wish
to help/harm someone, and would prefer others not be able to find out where
you sent the energy to. Though I should mention that in the case of the Artificial
Link and the Natural Link, the links themselves can be followed by others
as they’re very visible to Sight.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LINKS?
In my opinion there are three main categories of links,with infinite variations
inside those categories as each person develops their own types of links to
best achieve their goals.
The three main categories are:
The Working Link
This category contains the various types of temporary links designed
for specific purposes. Inside this category you have the various types of
combat links, healing links, feeding links and other general purpose forms
of links. The links that fall under this category are usually cut after the
Work is completed in order to avoid the problems of lust induction, etc.
The Artificial Link
This category of links is very similar to the Working Link except
that it covers those links that are designed to be permanent instead of temporary.
It can be caused either by a deliberate act on the part of one or both of
those who are linked or it can be caused by excessive linking to an individual
using a Working Link. It’s thought that what happens is that when we
cut a link there is always some residue of a connection left over and over
time and with increased linkings what can happen is that residue can coalesce
to form an artificial link. This type of link conveys far more data and power
than the temporary Working Link however also carries more responsibility on
the part of all parties thus linked. These links can be severed but it requires
more effort to do so.
The Natural Link
This category of links is also permanent but is far stronger than
the former categories mentioned. No one is entirely sure what causes these
links to form as they do so entirely of their own volition and often form
when those thus linked first meet. Past life connections tend to be grouped
under this category but just because you are linked in this fashion to someone
does not necessarily imply a past life together. This type of link conveys
far more data and power than the previously mentioned categories and often
to others it appears that those linked in this way are soul mates etc. simply
because they know each other so well, and in some cases when those individuals
are together a kind of "click" can be heard/felt by others who are
around them. This kind of link tends to be very hard to live with at first
because of the sheer amount and intensity of the data traveling between the
linked individuals. It is far from uncommon that one individual will take
on the other’s emotions which can be a bad thing in the case of fury.
There is also a problem wherein if one of the individuals tends to be bipolar,
etc. they will drag their linkmate with them through their cycle. These problems
are why filters are so necessary in order to prevent problems. It is possible
to sever this type of link, however this tends to be extremely painful and
there is a high chance that the link will reform.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY LUST INDUCTION?
This is a problem that happens a lot with feeding links. What occurs is that
the intimacy of the link and the feeding process can cause a false sense of
love in the donor which for all intents and purposes seems very real to the
person. The problem is that because it’s illusion it will eventually
wear off unless the person continues to be a donor at which time the feelings
can continue to build. When it does eventually wear off hurt feelings and
broken hearts are often the result sometimes with tragic results. Those who
are ethical about their feeding will usually cut all contact on seeing that
the donor has fallen prey to this illusion for at least a month, this is usually
enough time for the illusion to wear off. It may sound cruel to just cut contact
but this is the best known way to counter lust induction, especially since
those suffering from it cannot usually be convinced that it’s illusion.
I should mention that normally this false sense of love is one way only, but
there are exceptions.
YOU KEEP MENTIONING THE DATA THAT WAS TRANSMITTED,
WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
Depending on the type of link a lot of data can be conveyed between the parties
involved. This data can include but is not limited to:
- Emotional state/emotion transference
- Physical state/injury transference
- Data from the five senses of the other individual, to the extent
of tasting what they taste etc.
- Mental conditions
- Ability transference(mainly in Natural Links)
- Some thought transference
- Knowing when the other party is in danger
I should also mention that in some cases if one member of the link is highly
involved with Psi or the Art and one member isn’t, then the highly involved
member can act as a catalyst for the other member’s abilities to surface.
WHAT IS A FILTER?
A filter is a form of shielding used with links to control the amount of
data and what type is transmitted between the individuals. This is very important
to know how to do with the permanent links especially as it can prevent emotional
overload.
HOW DO YOU BUILD A FILTER?
Everyone has their own way of building a filter but here is one way.
- Calm your mind as always.
- Now, look within you for the link you wish to filter. Some people find
it helps to visualize it as a kind of tunnel.
- Now, open yourself up to the link and feel/see the various kinds of data
flowing from your linkmate to you. Spend some time feeling it out so you
can get an idea of what you want to block.
- Now, create a kind of wall inside the link that has lots of holes in it.
See the energy that is conveying the data flowing through those holes.
- Now slowly close the holes in the wall to block the energies you don’t
want coming through. If you want to completely block the data flow, close
all of them, though I warn you that this will hurt some. Spend a few moments
to make sure that the wall holds and that the energy doesn’t find another
way through, and make adjustments if necessary.
- Finish up as always.
An alternate form of filter some people find works is to simple create a
normal shield inside the link and set it to block the energies you don’t
want coming through.
Do keep in mind that this just blocks what’s coming in from your linkmate,
not what you’re sending out. Creating a filter for what you send is exactly
the same except what you want to do is focus on the outgoing energy instead
of the incoming. Many people prefer to see it as the incoming energy/data
on top and the outgoing beneath it.
Remember, a filter can only do so much, you still have a responsibility to
warn your linkmate if you’re having a really rough day so they can take
appropriate action to protect themselves from your emotions.
SO HOW DO YOU FORM A LINK?
Forming the Working Link is very easy. Everyone has their own way to do it,and
many make them without even realizing what they’re doing. The method
I’ll show you here is one I call the Doors Technique.
- Calm your mind as always.
- Now start thinking about the person you want to form the link to, think
about how they feel, etc.
- Now in your mind, tell yourself to form a link to the person and see a
set of large double doors appear in your mind’s eye. For some people
it can help to see the person’s name written on the doors.
- Now see yourself open the doors wide. Don’t be surprised if the doors
seem to keep wanting to shut, this is normal, it’s the target’s
subconscious reacting to an intrusion. Just block the doors open.
- Now open yourself up to the link you’ve created and see if what you
feel from it matches the person you wanted to link to. If you get nothing
or get a completely different feel, close the doors and see them disappear
and feel the link sever, then begin again.
- If you’ve made the link properly, continue with the Work you have
planned channeling the energies through the link.
- When you’re finished the work, close the doors and see them disappear
and feel the link sever. This can be a bit disorienting at first until you
get used to it.
- Finish the Working as always.
Sometimes when you open the doors you’ll notice some kind of animal
just inside them. No one is entirely sure why this is but the thought is that
it’s either the person’s totem reacting to the intrusion or the
personification of a Were side. If this occurs, often they’ll just watch
what you’re doing, though in cases of attacks they can/will attack you.
There is almost no reason to go wandering in someone else’s mind and
doing so is usually considered a hostile act. Don’t do it unless you’re
willing to accept the consequences which in some cases can be fatal if the
person who’s privacy you’re invading is a well trained psi/mage
who’s layered in defenses against such intrusions.
CONCLUSION
Links are a useful tool and one of the basics that’s required for more
advanced work thus is worth the effort to learn to do properly. Remember though,
you always have a responsibility to make sure you sever the link when you’re
finished Working to avoid causing the person you’re Working with unnecessary
problems. Also remember, unless a link is made in very special ways, a link
works both ways. If you can send to them, they can send to you. So if you’re
using a link to attack, definitely make sure you are shielded or you’re
in for a very bad day.
