Title:
Handling Psychic Attacks
Author(s):
WolfKin

It is an unfortunate fact that in today’s world where anyone can acquire knowledge of psychic and magickal practices with a few clicks of a mouse or a small expenditure of cash that not all those who do so will have the best intentions at heart. Just like anything else, there are those who will use knowledge to further their own agenda, using force if necessary. In the magick or psychic areas, this use of force gets grouped under the umbrella term of Psychic Attack.

Just like when faced with it’s conventional cousin, there are certain things one should and should not do. The purpose of this document is to attempt to explain those do’s and don’ts that apply to the majority of attack types used. This is by far not a comprehensive list since new attack techniques are being developed at an astounding rate, but most can be at least slowed down by remembering these principles.

WHAT IS A PSYCHIC ATTACK?

Psychic attacks no matter if they are caused by psychic or magickal means fall into one of three major categories.

Manipulative
These attacks are designed to cause a change in the victim’s behavior/thought patterns. Examples of these are love spells, emotional manipulation using Empathic Broadcasting, etc.

Damaging
These attacks have one main purpose. To cause varying amounts of damage to the energetic structure of the victim. Repairing this damage requires either the services of a skilled Healer or a great deal of time.

Fatal
Thankfully the most rare of attack types;these attacks are designed to kill. Surviving these types of attacks usually leaves lasting effects on the victim that Healers are usually only partially able to repair. Luckily very few people have the skill/power to be able to use these types of attacks effectively.

HOW COMMON ARE PSYCHIC ATTACKS?

That’s actually a hard question because it depends entirely on the things the potential victim does. If the victim is a “Guardian” type or someone who deliberately pisses people off a lot then the risk is substantially higher than someone who is just a simple witch that minds their own business.

Based on my experience, in normal conditions you’ll get one deliberate attack per every 1000 possible cases. Normal conditions being just a normal everyday practitioner that tends not to make a habit of pissing the wrong people off and isn’t involved with various groups where egos and tempers are a lot higher than morals.

WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON PSYCHIC ATTACK?

In my experience the most common attack isn’t an attack at all. More often than not, when a possible attack is investigated closely you discover one of three things.

Delusion: One of the biggest problems with today’s views on magick etc., is that people tend to forget to eliminate the mundane first. A lot of so called “attacks” end up being nothing more than headaches from staring at a monitor too long or simple stress. Also included under this category are those people who claim attacks for no other reason than to get attention.

Person’s own abilities acting up: This is a Very common occurrence. People seem to forget that untrained or improperly trained abilities can go haywire at times causing pain. The most common culprits for this kind of “attack” is Empathy and Telepathy. Uncontrolled, either of these talents can cause massive migraines from sheer overload.

Accidents and over-sensitivity: This is the other common cause of so called attacks. There are a lot of ways this particular problem can surface, examples include bad aim, abilities becoming uncontrolled, too much force behind things like scans and of course plain over sensitivity on the part of the “victim” to a light scan etc.

SO WHAT SHOULD AND SHOULDN'T I DO IF I THINK I'M UNDER ATTACK?

Here is a basic list of things you should and shouldn’t do in no particular order:

Calm down
The biggest mistake I see people make when under possible attack is they jump to one of two extremes, fear or anger. Both of these are a really bad idea in a real attack situation because you stop thinking. Instead of planning exactly how to handle the situation people under the influence of these emotions tend to just lash out blindly with little effect to someone who’s waiting for it.

Check for a link
Most attacks require a link of some kind in order to function. These can come in a variety of types though the psychic link is the most common. To the Sight this will look like a cord going away from you into the distance. If you find one of these, cut it immediately if you know it doesn’t belong.

Sit down and Think
In a real attack situation you really need to sit down and figure out who/what is behind the attack so you can formulate an effective counter to the attack. Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Why do I think I’m under attack?
  2. Who have I annoyed lately?
  3. Do they have the capability to do what I think is happening?

If the answers to any of these questions don’t make sense or seem trivial I suggest re evaluating whether you are really under attack.

Determine the type of attack
I can’t emphasize enough how important this is for two reasons. First of all, if it’s not a real attack, odds are this will tell you. Be wary of just massive amounts of emotions coming at you. Secondly, unless you have an idea what you are trying to deal with, there is no effective way to develop a counter.

Confirm Intent
This is another crucial step in determining whether you are being deliberately attacked. Feel along the link and if you don’t sense hostility etc., odds are very high that it’s not a deliberate attack. The other reason for confirming intent is to prevent the situation from escalating, because I guarantee that if you just lash out without checking and the person wasn’t really attacking you before hand, they now will be and it will be your own fault.

Use appropriate force
One of the big mistakes I see people make is only using the same level of force as their opponent. In my opinion this is a really bad idea, simply because it prolongs the length of the conflict. Simply put,if you are under deliberate attack, throw everything you have at them to make sure it stops.

Make sure you can live with your response
When people are attacked, their first response due to their anger is to just lash out. Often after the fact, they feel so guilty about it they might as well have not bothered to defend themselves. Make sure before you act that your intended response fits within your personal moral compass, otherwise there’s a good chance your counter won’t even work.

Make sure your defenses are up
You can have the most powerful defences in the world, but they are Worthless if they’re not active. In my opinion you should Always have a shield up just to keep out everyone else’s emotional garbage they broadcast. In an attack situation, everything you have - defense wise - should go up with as much power as you can get put into them.

Confirm your target
This is another thing people forget to do. They tend to make the assumption that just because something happens to be nearby it’s the culprit. This is just a bad idea for two reasons. First off you are wasting resources which you need. Secondly you’re possibly attacking the wrong person and thus creating a second situation you get to deal with at the same time as the original attacker. Much easier to spend the extra few minutes to confirm your target.

Don’t let your ego write checks your body can’t pay
One of the stupidest things I see people do is deciding that they’re going to handle things even when they know it’s well outside their league. If you know you can’t handle something ask for help! Not doing so just to save your pride is stupid and dangerous.

CONCLUSION

Most people will never find themselves in a position where they need to defend themselves against another person or entity for the simple reason that the number of people who can successfully launch a real psychic attack that has any real power behind it is very small. Unfortunately though, as knowledge and popularity of these subjects increases so does the number of those who would use this knowledge for their own warped ends. We must decide, do we solve the problem by just banning the knowledge, or do we try and educate in order to reduce the threat? Personally, I choose education.
