Title:
UVEX Lens Selection Chart
Author(s):
Uvex Safety

This chart is now located on-site because UVEX keeps moving the chart on it's home page. :) The PDF charts links point directly to documents ON the UVEX site - so if they give their site another makeover, the chart links will probably be broken. Just let me know, and I'll fix the links, but in the meantime, at least the chart itself will still be here. As a comparison, I use the Infradura Shade 5's mentioned on the bottom of this chart.

"NM" = nanometers
"VLT" = Visible Light Transmission (The amount of light that gets through the lens)

VLT
Application
clear*
90% For indoor applications where impact protection is required. Absorbs >99.9% of UV radiation up to 385 nm
amber**

90% For low light applications in which contrast may be enhanced. Absorbs >99.9% of UV radiation up to 400 nm
light gray**
35% Commonly used outdoors for glare reduction. Easy for eyes to adjust from inside to outside for workers. Absorbs >99.9% of UV radiation up to 400 nm. Uvex light gray, gray, mirror and SCT-gray lenses meet color traffic signal recognition requirements of ANSI Z80 .3.
standard gray**

15% For outdoor applications where sunlight and glare cause eye strain and fatigue. Absorbs >99.9 of UV radiation up to 400nm. Uvex light gray, gray, mirror and SCT-gray lenses meet color traffic signal recognition requirements of ANSI Z80.3.
dark gray
10%

For outdoor work applications where sunlight and glare cause eyestrain and sunglass tint is dark gray in color and has a Visible Light Transmittance of about 10%. This means 10% of light will pass through the lens. The dark gray lens will absorb 99.9% of UVA and UVB radiation up to 400nm.

mirror**
15% For outdoor applications where sunlight and glare cause eye strain and fatigue. Absorbs >99.9 of UV radiation up to 400nm. Uvex light gray, gray, mirror and SCT-gray lenses meet color traffic signal recognition requirements of ANSI Z80.3.
espresso**
12% For outdoor applications where sunlight and glare cause eye strain and fatigue. Meets color traffic signal recognition requirements of ANSI Z80.3
SCT-low IR**   80% For indoor applications where peripheral infrared radiation protection's required, such as under welding helmets or walking through welding sites. Also reduces glare from fluorescent and halogen lighting. Absorbs 99.9 % of UV radiation up to 400nm; 40% harmful IR radiation.
SCT-vermillion**
Discontinued
55% For indoor applications such as inspection where contrast may be enhanced. Also reduces glare from fluorescent and halogen lighting. Absorbs >99.9 of UV radiation up to 400nm.
SCT-red**
10% Enhances target point sighting of the red alignment or leveling beam. Allows you to see the target point even in bright sun-light.
SCT-gray**
15% Excellent for outdoor applications. Provides true color recognition and low level infrared protection to help keep the eye cooler and reduce eye strain. Designed to protect against short-term electric arc. Absorbs >99.9 of UV radiation up to 400nm; 85% of harmful IR radiation. Uvex light gray, gray, mirror and SCT-gray lenses meet color traffic signal recognition requirements of ANSI Z80.3.
SCT-  reflect  50**
50% the SCT Reflect 50 lens was designed for use in specific task-oriented applications such as work applications with varying light conditions.This tint is a comfortable solution for workers that move into or out of shaded or indoor locations, to direct sunlight.  For example, a worker who drives a forklift in and out of a building would find the SCT Reflect 50 a very comfortable solution to wear.
SCT-blue**
57% For work areas with high levels of yellow light such as semi-conductor facilities using sodium vapor lighting. Absorbs >99.9 of UV radiation up to 400nm.
SCT-cobalt**
Discontinued
0.2% For high-heat applications such as furnaces. Reduces the glare of metal or glass blowing and provides infrared radiation protection. Absorbs >99.9 of UV radiation up to 400nm; blocks 45% of harmful IR radiation.
SCT-orange**
(Dental orange)
45% Reduces eye fatigue by absorbing blue and green light. Allows you to clearly view components during curing and inspection processes. Absorbs >99.9 of UV radiation and visible light up to 532nm.
infradura® 2.0***
35% Shade 2.0 welding lens. For use around the welding site or for brazing and cutting.
infradura® 3.0***
14% Shade 3.0 welding lens. For use around the welding site or for brazing and cutting.
infradura® 5.0***   2% Shade 5.0 welding lens. For use around the welding site or for brazing and cutting.

SCT®= Spectrum Control Technology

VLT1= Visual light Transmission

* SCT and infrared polycarbonate lenses are more impact resistant than tinted glasses but are not as impact resistant as clear polycarbonate lenses

** Not for welding, cutting, or brazing. Do not use for protection against laser light.

*** Consult the filter shade table in ANSI Z87.1-1989 for selection of proper welding lens for specific applications.
