"...Interesting. I am also very sensitive to temperature
extremes. Also have low blood sugar and food sensitivities which are sometimes
unpredictable..."
Oh, I couldn't be allergic to parsnips or okra or anything foul like that; noooooo,
I have to have my migraines triggered by caffeine and sulfites. No red wine,
no chocolate, no coffee, minimal cured meats... *sob* And I say vampirism isn't
a curse. Yeah right. I didn't develop the food sensitivities until after my
near death experience. NO CHOCOLATE! Life isn't *fair*... (Extremely dark chocolate
tastes delightfully bloody, too - as I found out after taking a little tint
bite which made me dizzy and nauseous for the rest of the afternoon...)
"...I've had my partner taste my blood on a couple
of occasions and he said the second time it tasted somehow "richer" than the
first time. Don't know what was up with that, though I was feeling more healthy
the second time..."
You'd want to repeat the experience. Also, based on who I've bit, blood tends
to have a fairly strong taste, although everybody has a delightfully unique
flavour (one of the most enchanting things about blood, I think) - high-endorphin
blood tastes less metallic and so you will get sweet or pungent overtones, like
mangoes or tomatoes, whereas blood that isn't pumped up will taste a lot more
like copper or/and iron. It's not normal to taste blood that is completely watery.
I am sure there are non-vampires who have watery blood, too, but they might
have a serious deficiency of some substance or other.
"...I haven't tested it medically if that's what you mean.
At various times I've thought I was anemic, and have had my blood tested, but
only once did it turn out to be true. Also I haven't had official testing for
low blood sugar, but I have the characteristics of a hypoglycemic..."
I've been told my blood sugar is probably low as well, because I get swooning
spells when I stand up and am often easily exhausted (and am hypersensitive
to sugar when I ingest it); alternatively I've been told I might have abnormally
high blood sugar. The doctors say my blood sugar is as normal as can be.
The only time I've ever had anemia was when I was pregnant. Whoa boy was that
a good argument for the genetic theory of vampirism. I passed my vampirism on
to my baby; I could feel it (there's things that a mother just KNOWS if she
is close to her symbiote). The doctor actually recommended abortion because
of this (among other factors). I think next time I try to get pregnant, I'm
going to get myself well supplemented with protein and milk and vitamins and
so on first...
"...Feeding calms me down, to an extent, but I've also got to be in the right
mindset for it to work..."
Same here. The immediate effect might sometimes be a bit of a rush (depending
on circumstances) but more often than not, it's a grounding activity, more peaceful
than anything else. Freud would probably argue that I had been weaned too early
as a baby or something.
And it never works when I am anxiously preoccupied with something else, although
enough blood alone will invariably give me at least a slight perk. Nor does
it work very well during daytime. I'm still wondering about that one. I think
strong sunlight short-circuits my ability to receive energy or something - it's
too much of a good thing, perhaps. I used to love sunlight when I was a little
girl, but the older I got, the more I avoided it because it stressed me out.
"...The cat scratched my boyfriend up something nasty
today when he was trying to give her a pill, and he offered to let me feed from
the scratches but I didn't because I was too upset. When I am upset I don't
get the benefit from the blood and it doesn't even taste like anything to me
- _his_ blood, doesn't taste like anything to me, just like _my_ blood normally
doesn't..."
Now that's interesting. Other people's blood always tastes better to me than
my own blood, regardless of what mood I am in...
